When I got out of A&W after using my laptop with coffee, an old gentleman came up to me, "Isn't it cold biking in this time?" Yes, actually it is. "Haha, where are you going?" I'm just cycling across Canada. "Wow, really? Good for you, good luck. Bye bye." What a nice man. I thought that I would never have met him if there was 5minutes time difference. Encountering people is a miracle thing.
A&Wでコーヒーをちびちびやりつつ、パソコンをいじる。
店から出て出発の準備をしていると、老紳士に話しかけられた。
「この時期の自転車は、ちと寒くないかの？」
正直、寒いっすね。
「ハハハ。して、どちらまで？」
ちょっとカナダ横断を。
「ほう、それはグッドフォーユーじゃの！グッドラック、バイバイ」
素敵なおじいさんだ。
ここでふと「もしタイミングが5分ズレてたら、あの人とは一生会うことはなかったんだよな」と思い、
出会いというのは奇跡的なものなのだな、などと達観したつもりになるのであった。

が、途中で未舗装の道へと変貌を遂げる。
タイヤを取られて非常に走りづらく、イライラする。

Found a small space for setting up the tent, but this is... stupid. Am I doing survival? Not Camping? I understand how amazing things those are that taking shower, getting water, and keeping warm easily. Well, it will be fine if I am alive tomorrow morning. Ahh, damn cold...

キャンプじゃなくて、もはやサバイバルになってないか…
シャワーを浴びられる・水が簡単に手に入る・暖を取れる。
これら「当たり前」のことが如何に幸せかと理解しましたけどね。
「ロード」のハーモニカ音だけが虚しく脳内に響く、寒い夜だった。
