【Day31】 雨は やがて あがっていた -Ah, the rain has stopped- [20th/May]

I went to a grocery store to get food because I was almost out of it, however the opening time is 9am. Pretty sure I can get something in the today's destination, but you know, things might not go well. Providing is preventing. Decided to stay at a cafe for 2 hours. Well, also I felt cold.

食料が切れているのでスーパーへ向かうも、開店は9時。
きょう着く街で何かしら買えるだろうけど、何が起こるか分からない。備えあれば憂いなしだ。
そこにあるカフェで2時間ほど待機しよう。寒いしね。

There is a warm and home-style cafe, made me feel comfortable. No Wi-Fi, but I could make a draft of the blog at least.

まさに「小さな街のカフェ」という感じだ。地元の常連たちが、パンを突きながら談笑している。
Wi-Fiは使えないから、ブログの下書きだけ少し進めよう。



Ordered hot coffee and talked with the owner Ellen about my journey, then she offered "Would you like to have some toast for breakfast on the house?" Oh my gosh, seriously? That would be amazing, thank you!

コーヒーを注文し、女性店主のエレンと話をする。と、
「朝食にトーストをごちそうしようか」
と嬉しい申し出をいただいた！

Oh man... bread toasted properly, soft-cooked sunny-side up, crispy bacon, and fresh baked potatoes... this was the best breakfast ever on my journey, seriously! I've been eating just oatmeal and fruits so far. "This bread is home-made" Gloria, a friend of Ellen told me. Really? No wonder the flavor is awesome! I was eating slowly to savor the taste.

おぉ… 外はカリっと中はふわっとしたパン、半熟の目玉焼き、カリカリのベーコン、ほくほくのじゃがいも…
「パンは自家製なんだよ」
と、来店していたエレンの友人、グローリアが教えてくれる。なるほど、香りも良いわけだ。
人に言わせれば何てことない、普通の味なのかもしれないけど、
その家庭的で温かみのある朝ごはんが、たまらなく美味かった。
これは最高の朝食だった。



I should pay for coffee at least, I said. "No worries, you will do something for other people, okay?" said Ellen. Oh yes, I will be the man who can say it to someone! And they taught me that this conception is called "pay it forward". I'll never forget.

せめてコーヒー代は払うよ、と言ったが、
「いいんだよ、今度はあんたが誰かに、何かを与えてやりなさい」
…これを言われるのでなく、言える人間にならなくちゃな。
そして、この精神をpay it forward（ペイイットフォワード）というのだと、教えてくれた。
日本語に訳すなら、恩送り。受けた恩を、当人ではなく別の人に送る、つまり幸せの連鎖だ。覚えておこう。

Thank you very much, Ellen (Right) and Gloria (Left)! Ellen is a bit camera-shy, haha. Encounter you guys is a really wonderful thing on my journey. Best wishes for your continued success in the future! One thing, I forgot to give them hearts with wings... when we meet again in the future, I will!

右がエレン、左がグローリア。エレンは若干、カメラ嫌いなようだ。
何でか知らんが、ハートの折り紙を渡すのを忘れてしまった…
いつか再会したら、そのときだな。



Destiny, Ellen and Gloria, They are amazingly nice to me. I took to Kipling! Did grocery shopping, the light drizzle was still falling from the morning. Well, it's time to defeat the unpaved, gravel and slippery road. Let me see...

デスティニー・エレン・グローリアに出逢えた。良い街だったな、キプリング。
買い物を済ませるが、朝からの小雨はまだ降り続いている。
さて、悪路に突っ込むお時間だが…

Great, huh? 20km to go.

なるほど、この道を20kmね。

Mmm it's pretty tough... but when I trace the wheel track, not so bad. I was biking very carefully not to get mud.

走りづらいけど… 轍を辿れば、何とか行けるぞ。
汚れないよう、おっかなびっくり進む。



Then, one of gods came up to me "Can I give you a ride?" Oh thank you, but I'm okay. There is just 15km to go! He must have thought that I was insane. Yup, you are right!

と、そこへ神が舞い降りる。
「乗せて行こうか？」
いや、あと15kmだけなんで、大丈夫っす！
神の顔に泥を塗りつける、愚かな人間。
あぁこいつは頭がおかしいんだな、と思ったであろうその神は、去っていった。
あなたが正しいぜ！



The cars went by me showered me mud, thus I just decided to be muddy. Hahaha, let's get dirty, Avril!

ときどき通る車に軽く泥しぶきを浴びせられるので、もうどうでもよくなってきた。
がんがん漕ぐことにする。ふはは、泥まみれようぜアヴリル！



Then, one of angels came up to me "Can I give you a ride?" Oh thank you, but I'm okay. There is just 10km to go and I'm just crazy! He said "Take care!" with smiling. Yup, thank you!

と、そこへ天使が舞い降りる。
「乗せて行こうか？」
いや、あと10kmだけなんで、大丈夫っす！
天使の顔に唾を吐きかける、愚かな人間。
「そうか、じゃ気を付けてね！」
と笑顔で言うと、天使は去っていった。ありがとう！

中間地点でこんな感じに。もっとだ、もっと寄こせ！
My Little Loverの「Hello, Again ～昔からある場所～」を歌いながら先をゆく。

Looks like melted chocolate ice cream, I thought, then got to the end. Humph, you're no big deal, man!

溶けたチョコレートアイスみたいで美味そうだな、とか思ってたら、倒した。
何だ口ほどにもない、アイスで顔を洗って出直して来なさい。

Got a little muddy. No probs.

何てことない汚れだ。

Long time no see, paved road. Now I know how awesome you are!

そして舗装道路を走れるありがたみを知る。

It's been a while downhill, I missed you! I can go forward without pedaling... paradise.

そして出逢った下り坂。
何もしないで進む快感、久しぶりだ。

Arrived Carlyle. There is a bargain store... well, the name is actually "The Bargain Store" so I bought new pants and shoes.

カーライルという街に着いた。
その名も「バーゲンストア」という嬉しい響きの店を発見したので、
新しいズボンと靴を買った。

Because they'd gotten extremely muddy and torn up...

ドロンドロンのボロンボロンのビリンビリンだったからね…

By a church. I have "Japanese style unique religious outlook" but should thank agape.

教会横にテントを張った。アガペーに感謝しなくてはな。
