【Day0 / 0日目】 ROMANCE DAWN -冒険の夜明け-

Finally, it is time to go. I am leaving tomorrow morning. :)
I've got 80% of excitement, and 20% of anxiety right now. It is like a feeling of an elementary school student who is going to a school trip tomorrow. You know what I mean, don't you?
Meteorologist said that it would be raining cats and dogs this Sunday, however luckily it has changed to cloudy in Victoria, and just shower in Vancouver.
Oh boy, I am stoked... cannot wait for tomorrow! Hope I will be able to get to sleep tonight.

I sincerely appreciate Fairfield Bicycle Shop, the best store in Victoria! My journey wouldn't even start if there was not your support. Thank you so much Tim, Corey, Charlie, and all the amazing staff! Hmm, I should have had a picture taken with you guys...
Those who move in Victoria should visit this fantastic shop to get a new bicycle. :)


さて、いよいよか。
出発は明朝。
修学旅行を翌日に控えた小学生に似た気持ちがあるね。
これまでの人生で最大のイベントが始まるという期待が8割、じぶん本当に大丈夫なのかという不安が2割。
今夜は寝付けるんだろうか。

2,3日前は、明日どしゃ降りになるみたいな予報だったんでちょっと萎えてたんだけど、
いま見るとビクトリアは曇りになってる。バンクーバーも小雨っぽい。
幸先がいいようで。

今回、Fairfield Bicycle Shopには何から何までお世話になりました。
この場を借りて謝意を表させていただきますっていうか日本語に訳しても意味ないですねこれ。
店員さんみんな親切で、素晴らしいお店です。
ビクトリアに住まわれる際には、こちらで自転車を手に入れてはいかがでしょうか。



んん…!! まずは仲間集めだ、10人はほしいなァ!!

この道を行けば どうなるものか -What will happen if I go down this path-

Here is my rough journey route.
The transit points are supposed to be Vancouver, Whistler, Jasper, Banff, Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, PEI, Halifax, Cape Breton, and finally the destination, St.John's. These may be changed though.

I will decide the detailed roads whenever it is necessary. It sounds much more interesting that tossing a coin or something to know which way I should go when I stand at the crossroads, than planning it perfectly before departure.
Journey should be happy-go-lucky, eh?


経路のイメージはこんな感じになってます。経由地として考えてるのは、
バンクーバー、ウィスラー、ジャスパー、バンフ、カルガリー、リジャイナ、ウィニペグ、トロント、オタワ、モントリオール、ケベック、プリンスエドワードアイランド、ハリファックス、ケープ・ブレトン、そして最終目的地のセント・ジョーンズ。
変わる可能性は大いにありますが。

細かい道は行く先々で都度決めます。予め設定するのも面倒くさいし、計画通りに行くとも思えないし。
分岐点に辿り着いたら小枝でも倒して、それが指し示した方に行く。そんな感じで良いんじゃないか。
旅は行き当たりばったり、臨機応変がおもしろいと思う。

Tax Return -徴収されたら取り返す… 確定申告だ！-

Thank goodness, what a relief! Finally my "dough" deducted by government of Canada has come back. :)
To be honest, my journey would be pretty tough if it was not with me. Now, I do not have to sleep in the open air every night. :p

The amount is almost the same as my previous monthly income, as a slack season though. My point is that you guys should not be lazy with tax return. ;)



一番の懸案事項だったタックスリターン、やっと返ってきました！
正直これがなかったら、なかなか苦しい旅になるところだったからね。
毎にち野宿する必要は無くなったんで、ひと安心 (´∀｀*)

しかし軽く月収分くらいの額になったぞ。仕事が全然なかった閑散期の頃の、だけど。
どんだけ天引きしてくれてたんだ、まったく。

確定申告、皆さんもちゃんとやった方が良いですよ。

予定変更！ -The plan has changed!-

The term of my journey had been supposed to be from May to August, however has changed from the end of April to the end of July.

Basically I must leave Canada by July 23rd because my visa expires on that day. What I was planning is "Visit New York awhile, and come back to Canada so that I can get a tourist visa!" ...but, apparently it is not so easy peasy, since there are lots of guys who had come up with the same idea and has been refused. Even "immigration country" Canada does not accept everyone, of course not. :(

Therefore, I've decided not to take a risk. It would be a funny story if I gave it a try and got deportation though. :p
I was thinking to go to Ground Zero and to meet my friend living in NY, but I should wait for the next opportunity.

By the way, there is still about 8,500km to go across Canada, so I need to start earlier to make sure having enough days on the journey. The tentative date is April 20th, then I have 95days... hmm, I should aim to bike 100km everyday. Break a leg, not literally!



5月から8月の旅を計画してたんですけども、4月下旬から7月下旬までになりました (^^; )

解説しましょう。

そもそも、ワーホリの期限が7月23日までなので、それまでに出国しなくちゃいけないんですね。
「でも、一旦アメリカに出て、いわゆる観光ビザでカナダに再入国すれば、8月まで居られるじゃん ♪~(´ε` *)」と余裕ぶっこいてました。

ところがこの再入国、そうは問屋が卸さないらしい。というのも、同様のことを試みたけど許可が下りなかった、って人が結構いるみたいなんだな。
移民の国カナダといえど、どうやら二つ返事で入れてくれるほど甘くは無いようです。

ビザ延長の手続きを予めやっておけば良かったんだけど、「申請料に100ドル以上かかるとかアホらしいし、だったら旅の途中で直々にビザもらえば良い話だ」と思って、しなかった。そして出発まで日が無いから、これは今さら間に合わない。

玉砕覚悟で国境に突入⇒強制送還⇒ネタになる！ (゜∀゜*)
なんてことは考えず、君子は危うきに近寄らないことにします。
グラウンドゼロに行ってニューヨークの友だちに会いたかったけど、また機会はあるでしょう。

で、アメリカ行きは取りやめたものの、総距離は依然として8,500kmほど。
出発を早めないと、もはやゴールできなくなってしまうんだね。仮に4月20日に出るのを見込んでるけど、それでも95日間、カツカツな気がするなあ。
とりあえず、目標は1日100km走行と。カラダもってくれよ…

旅の動機 -How come you do it?-

The reason I make this journey is, in a nut shell, it must be fun! ...Is it too short to explain? :p

I've been thinking of traveling to the east of Canada because of my living in only Vancouver and Jasper for the past one and half year, but one day, I noticed that "Going across Canada is better!" "By bicycle is much better!" therefore this plan has been made.

You can take forty winks or grab a bite while a bus or a train is running for you. On the other hand, bicycle is moved by your passion. When you pedal hard, it goes further. When you are lazy, it goes for only an inch. Moreover, if you are overconfident or careless, you will get in an accident and then die. It is like metaphor of life, isn't it?
I sure will get bushed, however be able to feel wind, smells, temperatures, scenery... and also visit lots of places, and meet lots of people. That is why bicycle is attractive. :)

I wish I could go around the earth, but unfortunately, I am broke... x(  I might do it if I do not build a home in several years, haha.

何でまた、カナダ横断なのか。それも自転車で。

かいつまんで言えば「絶対楽しいに決まってる」からだ。
…かいつまみ過ぎですか（笑

かねてから、帰国前にカナダ東部を見ておきたいなーとは思ってたんだよね。西のバンクーバーと、その近くのジャスパーに住んでただけだから。そんである時、ふと思い付いたのが「どうせ東に行くんだったら横断旅行にしようぜ！」「どうせ横断するんだったら自転車でやっちゃおうぜ！」という案。それは面白そうだなーと、即決。

電車やバスだったら寝てる間に目的地へ連れて行ってくれるけれど、自転車というのは自分の気持ちが動かす乗り物だ。一生懸命ペダルを漕いだら、ぐーんと進む。逆にサボったら、全く進まない。また、調子に乗ったり気を抜いたりしたら、事故って死ぬ。人生の縮図みたい。
ひーこら言いながらも、風・匂い・気温・景色、すべてを全身で味わいながら前へ行く。それこそが自転車の醍醐味で、おもしろいと思う。
そうやって脚をパンパンにして走った先で、色んな場所を見て、色んな人に逢って、色んなことを感じて、楽しくないわけがない。

それと、単純に楽しむためってのが主題なんだけども、ブログタイトルにもある「ヘタレ克服」というのが副題としてある。
せっかくカナダに来て2年ほど経とうというのに、消極的な性格は相変わらず… そんな体たらくなので、この"挑戦"を通して、ちょっとは自信を持てる人間になれたなら棚ぼたかなあと。

本当は世界一周でもしてやろうかと思ったんだけどね、先立つものがなかった… (´へ｀;)
帰国して仕事してお金を貯めて、数年しても家庭を持ってないようだったらやろうかな（笑　さもなくば老後か。

自転車でカナダを横断したら、ヘタレは克服できるのか。その答えは数ヶ月後に出よう。

出発までは、準備の状況や持ち物の紹介なんかをしていくつもり。
旅が始まったら、なるべく日ベースで更新します。たくさんの写真とともに。
とはいえWi-Fiが捕まらない状況も出てくるだろうから、しばらく滞ることもあるのかな。
通勤・通学中、休憩時間、休みの日の暇つぶしなど、まー時間のあるときにでも見てみてください。
とりあえず初めのご挨拶まで！
