-The longest biking so far, butt...?- [21st/May]

Left the church. Ah, fantastic weather today, eh?

I saw lots of this heavy equipments on this day. Are they trying to find oil?

Who are you?

It's a chance to take a picture on the center line when there is no car.

Took a rest.

Knock knock, anybody home? Unfortunately, no one was there.

Again, who are you?

Alrighty, I got to the fourth province, Manitoba. Glad to hear that she welcomes me.

Damn, there is no shoulder on this road... well there is, but gravel. Biking on roadway is really scary. Manitoba have to work on this before one of cyclists have an accident someday.

Now, I've got a problem. ...My butts. Sitting on a hard saddle for very long time everyday makes them really hurt. Cyclists usually wear special pants which have a pad to prevent it, but I don't. Probably I should get one when I arrive in a big city. Until then, the feet of Rilakkuma work as my cushion.

Agh, goddamn pain on my butts... I will stop in the next town, Souris. How about the first town of the 4th province?

The bench in a pitch looked nice, however some guys came to the ground around 10pm to drink or just talk... hmm, I'd better move.

Behind a school. Man, I should've chosen here earlier. Apparently school is always nice to stay.

And finally, my sunglasses were broken. I got it for peanuts when I lived in Vancouver. Guess it was about $10 and also one more for free, so they've worked very well despite the cost was just 5 bucks. Btw I gave the another one to my Venezuelan friend who went shopping together.

Congrats, the odo is now over 3,000km. You've proceeded to the next level!

【Day31】 雨は やがて あがっていた -Ah, the rain has stopped- [20th/May]

I went to a grocery store to get food because I was almost out of it, however the opening time is 9am. Pretty sure I can get something in the today's destination, but you know, things might not go well. Providing is preventing. Decided to stay at a cafe for 2 hours. Well, also I felt cold.

There is a warm and home-style cafe, made me feel comfortable. No Wi-Fi, but I could make a draft of the blog at least.

Ordered hot coffee and talked with the owner Ellen about my journey, then she offered "Would you like to have some toast for breakfast on the house?" Oh my gosh, seriously? That would be amazing, thank you!

Oh man... bread toasted properly, soft-cooked sunny-side up, crispy bacon, and fresh baked potatoes... this was the best breakfast ever on my journey, seriously! I've been eating just oatmeal and fruits so far. "This bread is home-made" Gloria, a friend of Ellen told me. Really? No wonder the flavor is awesome! I was eating slowly to savor the taste.

I should pay for coffee at least, I said. "No worries, you will do something for other people, okay?" said Ellen. Oh yes, I will be the man who can say it to someone! And they taught me that this conception is called "pay it forward". I'll never forget.

Thank you very much, Ellen (Right) and Gloria (Left)! Ellen is a bit camera-shy, haha. Encounter you guys is a really wonderful thing on my journey. Best wishes for your continued success in the future! One thing, I forgot to give them hearts with wings... when we meet again in the future, I will!

Destiny, Ellen and Gloria, They are amazingly nice to me. I took to Kipling! Did grocery shopping, the light drizzle was still falling from the morning. Well, it's time to defeat the unpaved, gravel and slippery road. Let me see...

Great, huh? 20km to go.

Mmm it's pretty tough... but when I trace the wheel track, not so bad. I was biking very carefully not to get mud.

Then, one of gods came up to me "Can I give you a ride?" Oh thank you, but I'm okay. There is just 15km to go! He must have thought that I was insane. Yup, you are right!

The cars went by me showered me mud, thus I just decided to be muddy. Hahaha, let's get dirty, Avril!

Then, one of angels came up to me "Can I give you a ride?" Oh thank you, but I'm okay. There is just 10km to go and I'm just crazy! He said "Take care!" with smiling. Yup, thank you!

At the middle point of the road. Gimme more!

Looks like melted chocolate ice cream, I thought, then got to the end. Humph, you're no big deal, man!

Got a little muddy. No probs.

Long time no see, paved road. Now I know how awesome you are!

It's been a while downhill, I missed you! I can go forward without pedaling... paradise.

Arrived Carlyle. There is a bargain store... well, the name is actually "The Bargain Store" so I bought new pants and shoes.

Because they'd gotten extremely muddy and torn up...

By a church. I have "Japanese style unique religious outlook" but should thank agape.

No, it was...- [19th/May]

How come... in the morning, it was rainy and windy. I shouldn't stay here all day because of rain, well, it's not so strong, let's go. Kinda depressed though...

Soon, the rain and wind got stronger, and it made me extremely cold...

Biked very slowly for 15km and got to a gas station in a village. The store was closed, thus I took a rest under the eaves. However I was already dripping wet and the wind blew the rain... It's better that biking to warm my body than shivering here...

Still rainy and windy. How come I'm biking under such a terrible weather? Ah, I'm just stupid. Stopped in the next town and put on warm underwear, the sweater I got from Nick, and the pocket warmers which Max had given me. Please keep me warm, Max No.1&No.2...

Restart. Raining cats and dogs, strong head wind, freezing cold temperature, hands and feet feel dead, myself wet through...... haha. Hahahahahahaha! Alright, I can do it! Peace of cake, no sweat! I pedaled and pedaled like hell. Have no idea the drops dripping from my nose were either rain or mucus.

Mr.Children

Got to Kipling. Being energetic can't last long... I already got bushed even I hardly biked enough distance.

Went to a gas station and used the washroom. Washed my hands by hot water, oh I'm in heaven...

Well, I should buy something. Looking around in the store, then "I like your jacket" a woman clerk who'd seen my blouson talked to me. Thank you, because my name Tatsu means Dragon in Japanese, I said as usual. "Cool, mine is Destiny" ! Wow, Destiny! That's so cool! I like it.

"Stay here for a little while and get warm" Thanks! Then I want hot chocolate. "Ah, I can get it" Oh really? Free hot beverage, it makes me warm...

She told me that the man who'd traded goods started with one red paper clip finally has gotten a house in this town. "The statue of big clip is at the school" Interesting, I should see it later.

When I left the store, Destiny gave me a rain poncho. Thank goodness, mine has just gotten torn up! I also have something to give you, what's your favorite color? "Deep purple" Opened my tiny case which my heart origami packed in, then one of them fell to the floor... light purple. "This must be the one" She picked it up.

Thank you so much for your kindness, Destiny! I thought it was a miserable day, however to think I was able to encounter you in Kipling, it was an awesome day. Yeah, destined!

The huge red paper clip. Should I have inserted my origami or something?

Now I feel better, shall we go to the next town? Then a truck driver told me "Are you going on this way? It's gravel and slippery... terrible! I took one hour for driving 5km. You cannot go through by bicycle" Oh man, seriously? Took a look on a map and found Road709. "It's also gravel, but better than Road48, I would take it" Mmm, apparently it takes long time because the distance is 20km... I'd better stay in this town tonight. Thank to him, I avoided disastrous doom.

So, found a place behind the school, forgot to take a picture though. The inside of the building were bright, but they just have them as all-night lights and no one is there, mostly. Was pretty cold, so I unsealed Max No.3&No.4. The rain had turned to shower.

【Day29】 赤と青のジャージ -How did it come that...- [18th/May]

Roads are unpaved in small towns. How come? Why don't you work for them and me, Saskatchewan...

Mmm, head wind... How come?

They tried to come along with me. How come?

Damn head wind, I hardly go forward...

Montmartre. Let me see the town.

Shopping area, means it must be the downtown. CO-OP was closed because it was Sunday. Oh great...

Eiffel Tower. How come?

Refueling for my stove, I guess this is the third time on the journey. Boiling water in morning and cooking noodle in night almost everyday for one week to ten days by a full charged bottle. I can get it for peanuts, 0.33L for 43cents!

The sun came out, but still head wind. Ugh, annoying...

Bisons, right? Looks... yummy.

Okay, I cannot do it anymore. Biking 7 hours for 70km? What the... I will stay in this town, Glenavon tonight.

Nice bench in a pitch!

I will be warming the bench, Rilakkuma will be a pinch hitter!

Out of vegetable, crap. Made tea with my favorite mug, it doesn't suit with noodles though.

The head wind made me crazy today, on the other hand I found this fabulous place. Just hope no wind tomorrow, but it's still strong wind blowing. ...How come?

【Day28】 Tell me which way I should go -どちらにしようかな ***の言う通り- [17th/May]

Mist covered the ground in the morning.

In a park. Awesome weather today.

Just a few hours to get to Regina, then go grocery shopping and get out of there. I think that big city is only a convenient place for cyclist because there are millions of cars scare me, and zillions of people stare me.

Double vapor trails, and a steep uphill to leave the town is over there. It's been a while to use "Operation zig-zag" to defeat it. Thanks for nice warmup, man!

Wind and uphills make me feel upset, and there is one more thing, dead bodies of animals. Cat, reindeer, bird, snake, and others... I see them several tens a day. I don't bury them, however say "Rest in peace" at least.

Regina. The simplest welcome sign so far.

When you find Staples in a city, it means there is not a small town.

Got pretty enough food. Mainly there are 3 ways to head to Winnipeg. Since using the most popular one "Trans-Canada" is not my cup of tea, the choice is either turning right to take Road33, or left for 48.

Well then, it's up to you Nick, my left glove.

He said left. Okey-dokey, let's bike on Road48, Nick!

Great, just few cars.

...?

Little town, Vibank. My map says there is a school. Sounds good.

Found a no-one-can-see-me place behind the school. First, dinner time. Hungry hungry!

Not cold this night as well. Plz stay in this temperature from now on.
